Police in Osun arrest doctor for allegedly raping job seeker

The Osun State Police have confirmed the arrest of doctor Olayode Akangbe Shakiru for alleged assault and rape of a teenage girl.

Command spokesman Yemisi Opalola confirmed the arrest and said police were conducting investigations.

She disclosed that the suspect, Shakiru, was arrested on Thursday by a team of policemen from the Oke Baale Police Command in Osogbo after the family members of the 18-year-old girl reported the incident.

“On Thursday, he was arrested by the police on the road while returning from Ipetumodu to Osogbo along Ile-Ife road,” the PPRO said.

Opalola added that the doctor had been handed over to the State Criminal Police for further processing.

DAILY POST learnt that Shakiru approached the victim (name withheld) while she was walking on the street in Osogbo and offered to give her a lift to her destination.

Before dropping her off in Oke-Fia area of ​​Osogbo, the doctor took down her phone number and promised to get her a job so that she could raise money for her studies.

DAILY POST learnt that the rape occurred at the suspect’s house in Ilesa Garage area of ​​Osogbo, where the teenager had gone to sign the alleged employment contract.

Narrating her ordeal, the youth said she left her home in Osunjela community and went to Osogbo to look for work and while wandering around the streets, she met Dr Shakiru who offered her help.

On her actions after the incident, the teenager said: “I went to my older sister and told her about my experience. She then took me to Oke Baale Police Station in Osogbo and we reported the rape incident.”

Meanwhile, a text message that the doctor allegedly sent to the victim via WhatsApp has been secured as evidence in the case, in which he informed her of his intention to get her a job.

An older brother of the victim, who wished to remain anonymous, said the girl could not find the house when police took her there to arrest the suspect.

“We took the police to Atoke Hospital in Igbona area where he was allegedly working. The nurses at the hospital said he was a ‘listed doctor’ as he came by every now and then to attend to patients,” he added.
