Woman steals car during test drive, leads police on chase and jumps into Doral Lake, police say

DORAL, Fla — According to Miami-Dade police, a woman stole a Honda Civic from a Palmetto Bay car dealership Thursday afternoon, led police on a chase and then jumped into a Doral Lake in a failed attempt to elude authorities.

She has since been identified as 27-year-old Melinda N. Logan.

Police said the Logan test drove the vehicle at Honda of South Miami, 16165 S. Dixie Highway, and fled when the salesman got out.

As police pursued her on the Palmetto Expressway, she stopped near Northwest 25th Street in Doral after crashing into several cars and jumped into a lake behind Jackson West Medical Center.

Authorities pulled Logan from the lake and handcuffed her. She appeared to have lost or discarded some of her clothing along the way.

The dealership’s employees said Logan had been there before.

She faces charges of grand larceny and third-degree assault on a police officer.
