ACK calls on Generation Z to suspend protests and let Ruto implement demands

The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) has called on youth to stop protesting against the government and allow President William Ruto to implement their demands.

In a press conference, ACK Archbishop Jackson ole Sapit said the president had already started implementing some of his demands, including the dismissal of his cabinet, the signing of the IEBC Amendment Bill, 2024 and the resignation of Police Commissioner Japhet Koome.

“We appeal to Generation Z to give the government time to implement the changes they are demanding,” he said.

“When appointing the new team, the President should pay attention to the merits of those who will replace the dismissed officials.”

Sapit also urged the youth to refrain from actions that jeopardise the future that all Kenyans are fighting for.

The archbishop said both the government and the protesters must uphold the rule of law and avoid actions that could lead to chaos and further suffering for Kenyans.

“The police should ensure the safety of the protesters and manage the protests professionally without resorting to live ammunition, tear gas attacks on protesters and arbitrary arrests,” he said.

Sapit further said that every Kenyan has a right to information.

“We condemn the recent incidents where media personalities were attacked in broad daylight. We say no to harming people who inform Kenyans,” he said.

Sapot said the ACK will monitor and report on all progress made and demand implementation of all commitments.
