Greece declares state of alert due to forest fires


The Ministry of Civil Protection has declared a general state of alert due to several incidents across the country and the prevailing weather conditions such as high temperatures and strong winds. All fire departments are on high alert.

Since Wednesday afternoon, a forest fire has been raging in the forest area of ​​Agios Vlasis near Sofiko, Corinth, in the Peloponnese, overlooking Epidaurus.

The fire, which is burning through dense pine forest, is particularly challenging. Authorities have issued an emergency warning and urged Sofiko residents to remain vigilant. Three firefighters suffered minor burns and were hospitalized in Corinth. Authorities have closed traffic on the road leading from the settlement of Loutra Elenis to Epidaurus (also spelled Epidavros).
