Man killed in shooting at Trump rally was ‘hero’ who protected his family

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro identified the man killed in a shooting at a Trump rally on Saturday as Corey Comperatore, a firefighter from the state.

During a news conference on Sunday, the governor said he had spoken with Comperatore’s wife and two daughters. He was described as a “hero” who rushed to protect his family when the shots rang out.

Comperatore was killed, according to the FBI, when a 20-year-old gunman attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump.

Trump was shot in the right ear minutes after his appearance, the former president said on his Truth Social platform. He was reportedly examined at a local hospital before flying overnight back to New Jersey, where he has a home.

Two other participants in the rally were injured in the shooting and are in critical condition at a local hospital, officials said.

According to police, Secret Service members “neutralized” the gunman just minutes after he opened fire.
