Dutch fans attack England supporters in bar before European Championship semi-final

Before the semi-final of the 2024 European Championship in Dortmund on Wednesday evening, English fans were attacked by Dutch supporters.

Footage posted online shows what appears to be Dutch fans attacking their English counterparts in a restaurant and bar in the city centre, with punches being thrown, chairs and glasses being thrown and tables being overturned. Another clip shows riot police apparently pushing back Dutch fans outside a nearby homewares shop.

According to reports, at least ten people were arrested and several were injured.

A spokesman for the UK Football Policing Unit (UKFPU) said: “We are aware of some reports and videos of unrest in Dortmund. It appears that there have been several cases of Dutch fans attacking English fans in bars and attempting to steal flags.”

“To our knowledge, this has resulted in minor injuries to five people. We are also aware that in addition to the tens of thousands of Dutch fans enjoying the game, there are also groups of high-risk fans who have travelled to Dortmund from the Netherlands.

“Our officers are on site and are supporting German colleagues. We advise fans to be aware of their surroundings and to go to areas where German police are present.”
