Park City Police record hit-and-run accidents and cases of suspected drunk driving on crowded streets

Park City Police reported numerous traffic-related incidents in early July as large crowds descended on the city for Independence Day, July 4th.

Police records show that there were suspected drunken driving, hit-and-runs and traffic violations. The community was busy during the holiday season and the incidents were typical of times when crowds are common.

Park residents have long been concerned about speeding and other traffic violations, and in response, police conduct regular traffic checks.



Public police records provide only limited details about the cases. Some of the recent reports:

• On Sunday, July 7, at 11:22 p.m., an officer stopped a driver for failing to change lanes while passing an emergency vehicle on the side of the road. The incident was logged at the intersection of Park Avenue and Payday Drive. Public police records did not indicate if the driver received a warning or a citation.



• On July 7 at 5:15 p.m., police received information about a driver traveling at speeds over 50 mph, according to the person who contacted the department. The driver, in a Volvo, was seen on or near Sun Ridge Drive and entered a garage, police were told. The department logged the case as a citizen’s assistance, not a criminal matter.

• On Saturday, July 6, at 9:43 p.m., an officer stopped a driver on Park Avenue after noticing the vehicle did not have its headlights on. The vehicle was also driving in the middle of the road, police said.

• On July 6 at 7:52 p.m., a hit-and-run accident was reported on Park Avenue. No details were available from public police records.

• On July 6 at 5:32 p.m., an officer stopped a driver in the area of ​​the intersection of Main Street and Heber Avenue and reported that the vehicle was seen in an ingress/egress zone and not properly merging into traffic. The driver also appeared to have no driver’s license, police said. Public police records did not provide details on whether the driver received any citations or warnings.

• On July 6 at 1:49 p.m., a driver reportedly drove the wrong way on a one-way street at 5th Street, which led to a traffic stop.

• On Thursday, July 4, a suspected drunk driver was reported on Park Avenue at 7:07 p.m. A suspected drunk driver was also reported on SR 224 at 2:18 a.m. the same day. No details of the cases were available in public police records.

• On Wednesday, July 3, a hit-and-run accident was reported on Park Avenue at 10:21 a.m. Police were told the damage occurred the day before the report.

• A hit-and-run accident was reported on Iron Horse Drive at 11:40 a.m. Tuesday, July 2. Public police records did not provide details.
