Police: Drunk “John Doe” attacks several police officers in incident

At 8:38 a.m. on July 5, officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of South Clark Street because a man was allegedly harassing and spitting on passersby, Arlington police said.

Upon arrival, officers spotted a person matching the witnesses’ description, made contact with him and found that he had been drinking alcohol in public, police said.

Officers tried to get him to leave the area, but he refused, police said. When officers tried to arrest him, the suspect became belligerent, kicked the door of a police vehicle and spat in the direction of officers, police said.

When the suspect arrived at the booking counter, he refused to leave the transport vehicle and spat at an officer, police said.

With the help of other officers, the suspect was taken to prison. He kicked, spat at and tried to bite the officers, police said.

During the investigation, the suspect refused to give his name and officers’ attempts to determine his identity were unsuccessful, police said.

The suspect was arrested and charged with assault on police officers (four counts), attempted criminal damage, public drunkenness and consumption of alcohol in public.

He was registered as a “John Doe” and held without bail.
