Illinois man arrested as felon for stolen firearm

A Whiteside County man was arrested as a felon for possession of a stolen firearm.

According to a press release, on July 6 at approximately 10:13 p.m., a Whiteside County officer conducted an identification of a man in the 400 block of 2nd Ave E. in Lyndon. While the officer was speaking with Ryan Poulter, 38, of Lyndon, Poulter pulled a firearm from his waistband. The officer detained Poulter and took him into custody without injury. The investigation revealed that the handgun carried by Poulter had been stolen from Saginaw, Michigan. Poulter
was arrested and taken to the Whiteside County Jail.


Poulter was charged with the following offenses:

  • Possession of a stolen firearm – Class 2 felony
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon – Class 3 felony
  • Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Class 4 Felony – (2 counts)
  • Violation of a Protection Order – Class A Misdemeanor

The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Prophetstown Police Department and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police.
