“Titanic” and “Avatar” producer Jon Landau dies at the age of 63

Oscar-winning producer Jon Landauwho, alongside director James Cameron At Titanic and that User image Franchise, has died at the age of 63, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment Alan Bergman was announced in a statement that CBS News Saturday night (July 6).

“Jon was a visionary whose extraordinary talent and passion brought some of the most unforgettable stories to life on screen. His remarkable contributions to the film industry have left an indelible mark and we will miss him deeply. He was an iconic and successful producer, but also an even better human being and a true force of nature who inspired everyone around him,” said Bergman.

Landau’s cause of death had not been publicly announced as of Sunday morning (July 7). The partnership between Landau and Cameron Titanic resulted in three Oscar nominations, including one for Best Picture at the 1998 Academy Awards.

The duo created some of the biggest blockbusters in American cinema, including User image And Avatar: The Way of Water. Landau began his Hollywood career in the 1980s as a production manager before taking a producer role at Titanicthe first film to gross over $1 million at the worldwide box office.

“I can’t act, I can’t compose and I can’t do visual effects. I guess that’s why I’m a producer,” Landau said while accepting the Oscar for Best Picture with Cameron, one of 11 Oscars the film won in 1998, via CBS News.
