Houston-area man arrested and charged with child pornography created using artificial intelligence – Houston Public Media

A Houston-area man has been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography that he allegedly created using artificial intelligence, according to the Montgomery County 3rd District Attorney’s Office.

Roman Shoffner, 30, used an artificial intelligence program on his cellphone to alter the image of a 17-year-old girl by removing her clothing, the bureau said. He was arrested by the bureau’s human trafficking unit.

After investigators seized and examined Shoffner’s cellphone in May, they had sufficient probable cause to believe he “created the image of the 17-year-old female with the intent to possess child pornography.” Shoffner was arrested and charged with possession of child pornography, a third-degree felony, court records show.

According to KHOU, law enforcement authorities believe the arrest may be one of the first cases of its kind in the Houston area.

House Bill 2700 was amended last year to reflect technological advances and the computer generation of sexually explicit images.
