A Dutchess County man has died following a tragic accident in the Denver, Colorado area.

FOX31 in Denver, Colorado, had followed a report of a motorcycle crash on Monday evening, June 17, 2024. At the time, Sergeant Mike Farr of the Denver Police Traffic Investigation Unit told FOX31 that “officers arrived on the scene and found a motorcyclist in distress,” adding that “the motorcyclist had collided with the rear of a roll-off truck.”

The motorcyclist was later identified as 34-year-old Bobby Murphy, originally from Poughkeepsie, New York, and a graduate of Spackenkill High School.

Murphy was reportedly on his way to the hospital because his current girlfriend gave birth to his second child.

FOX 31 spoke to Murphy’s godmother, who confirmed that his girlfriend gave birth to a baby boy.

Fundraiser launched to support Bobby Murphy’s family

After the news of Murphy’s untimely death became public, friends of the Murphy family took action.

Michelle Tortarella, Murphy’s godmother, of Poughkeepsie, New York, has set up a GoFundMe campaign. On the fundraising page, Tortarella writes, “Needless to say, we are all heartbroken, but none more so than his mother, Debbie Maggiacomo.” Tortarella explains that Maggiacomo will fly her son’s remains back to Poughkeepsie, adding:

The costs add up quickly, and Bobby had no life insurance or savings to cover these expenses.

As of Tuesday, June 25, 2024, $3,150 has been raised, with a final goal of $20,000. Donations can be made on the GoFundMe website.
