Police called for assistance as there were significant train delays during rush hour

MANY PEOPLE travelling to work by train in South Wales may have faced delays this morning.

Anyone attempting to use the Cardiff Central – Barry route would have experienced significant delays to their train during rush hour this morning.

South Wales Police described it as a “serious incident” that trains from Cardiff Central to Barry were delayed from around quarter to six until just before 9am this morning.

South Wales Police later said Argus that the incident was being handled by the British Transport Police and that they were on site to clear the road closures.

The incident was believed to be related to a road closure on Gladstone Road at the foot of the Barry railway bridge. The closure was cleared by around 7.45am. Delays over the following hour were due to the resumption of normal services.

Much of this morning’s rush hour was experiencing delays of around 15 minutes. National Rail confirmed that train services and congestion had returned to normal by around 8:50am.
