Columbus mother charged with obstruction of justice in murder of her 8-year-old son

Columbus police say a mother is accused of hindering the investigation into the murder of her 8-year-old son. Police arrived at the scene of a home in the 1000 block of Olmstead Avenue in Columbus around 12:04 p.m. Friday afternoon for a child report missing. They said they spoke with the mother, Lashanda Wilder, 32, who said her 8-year-old son, Martonio Wilder, was last seen between 9:30 and 10 p.m. the previous evening when the child was being put to bed. Police issued an Amber Alert for the child. The Columbus Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit began the investigation and information gathered led them to suspect foul play may have been involved, prompting them to involve homicide detectives. At around 6:20 p.m., the child was found inside the home and pronounced dead by the Columbus Fire Department. Columbus Police Sergeant James Fuqua said Wilder was already away from home at the time, albeit with her two other sons, ages 3 and 9.Wilder was soon found Friday night, and another woman, Johnna Lowe, 33, was charged and arrested for obstruction of justice in the case. According to Columbus police, a mother has been charged with hindering the murder investigation of her eight-year-old son.

On Friday afternoon, around 12:04 p.m., police arrived at the scene of a home in the 1000 block of Olmstead Avenue in Columbus because a child had been reported missing.

They said they spoke to the mother, 32-year-old Lashanda Wilder, who said her 8-year-old son, Martonio Wilder, was last seen between 9:30 and 10 p.m. the previous evening when the child was put to bed.

Police issued an Amber Alert for the child.

The Columbus Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit began the investigation and, based on the information gathered, believed that a crime may have been committed and called in the Homicide Unit.

At around 6:20 p.m., the child was found in the house and pronounced dead by the Columbus Fire Department.

Columbus Police Sergeant James Fuqua said Wilder had already left home with her two other sons, ages three and nine, by that time.

Wilder was located Friday night and another woman, Johnna Lowe, 33, was charged and arrested for obstruction of justice in the case. Wilder’s relationship to Lowe is currently unknown.
