Actor Bill Cobbs dies at the age of 90: reports

(KTLA) – Veteran character actor Bill Cobbs died Tuesday in Riverside, California, according to several media outlets. He recently turned 90 years old.

TMZ cited Cobbs’ press secretary Chuck I. Jones as the source of the news that the Emmy winner had died. The news was also confirmed by PEOPLE Magazine.


Cobbs’ brother, Thomas Cobbs, told TMZ that pneumonia was suspected as the cause of death.

“As a family, we take comfort in knowing that Bill has found peace and eternal rest with his Heavenly Father,” said Thomas Cobbs. “We ask for your prayers and encouragement during this time.”

Bill Cobbs was known for films such as Night at the Museum and appearances in television series such as Walker, Texas Ranger and The Sopranos. Cobb won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Performance in a Daytime Program for Dino Dana.

He also appeared on “Air Bud” and said the line, “You won’t find anything in the rule book that says a dog can’t play,” setting up the referee’s classic response: “There’s no rule that says a dog can’t play basketball.”
