Larry Ljungberg will become principal of Randolph Academy

Larry Ljungberg, former superintendent of the Hinsdale Central School District in Cattaraugus County, has been named interim superintendent of Randolph Academy.

He will succeed Danielle Cook, who becomes superintendent of the Frewsburg Central School District. He will take office on July 1.

Randolph Academy, serving nearly 200 emotionally challenged elementary and middle school students from districts across Western New York, includes a residential campus in Randolph, Cattaraugus County, and a school day in Hamburg.

Ljungberg retired in 2023 after 10 years in the top job at Hinsdale. He was principal of Buffalo’s Charter School for Applied Technologies from 2001 to 2003, principal of Global Concepts Charter School in Lackawanna from 2003 to 2007, and principal of John F. Kennedy High School in Sloan from 2007 to 2010.

He also served as director of instruction and curriculum at Oracle Charter School in Buffalo and assistant principal at West Street Elementary School in Niagara-Wheatfield. He was previously a science teacher.

An East Aurora resident, Ljungberg earned a bachelor’s degree in biology with a concentration in chemistry at SUNY Oswego and earned a master’s degree in education there, specializing in curriculum and instruction. He also completed advanced studies in educational administration.
