Attempted murder investigation launched in Co Down after shotgun pellets fired into house – The Irish Times

The PSNI has launched an attempted murder investigation after shotgun pellets were fired at a house in Ballygowan, Co Down on Saturday evening.

Det Chief Insp Kerry Brennan said: “Police received a report that at around 11pm a woman was hit in the head and back by several shotgun pellets fired through the window of a house in the Brae Grove area.

“The woman, aged approximately 60, was taken to hospital for treatment of her injuries, where she remains. A man who was in the house at the time was unharmed in the incident. We believe the male suspect fled in a white Transit van.

“We are fortunate that we are not investigating a murder this morning. There is no place in society for criminals who endanger the safety of our community by bringing firearms onto our streets.”

Det Chief Insp Brennan continued: “We are asking anyone with information, dashcam or CCTV footage relating to this incident to call police on 101 quoting reference number 1815 of 22/06/24.”

“We are also asking anyone who has noticed a suspicious white van in the area in the last week to come forward.”
