APC rejects plans to suspend the National Convention

APC Interim Secretary John Akpanudoedehe

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has largely rejected plans to cancel its national party congress scheduled for next month.

Acting Minister, Senator John Akpanudoedehe, insisted in a statement that there was no truth in the story.

The author called on the public to completely ignore the “fake news from some media on this topic.”

The APC claimed that those behind the message were trying to create confusion through misinformation and foment a crisis in the party.

The party stated that the dates of meetings, primaries, congresses and national assemblies would be announced in due course through known official channels and not through “sources”.

It continued: “As a goal and process oriented political party, the APC Transitional Committee under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni will not be distracted by the self-serving antics of these sponsors of fake news.

“The APC Transitional Committee is already commencing consultations with stakeholders across the country to prepare the ground for a national congress without rancor. To this end, the Sub-Committee on Budgeting and other sub-structures will be established in due course.”

APC added: “The party thereby expressed its appreciation for the continued support of well-meaning members and leaders while the transition committee turns to the immediate task of dealing with intra-party disputes, legal disputes and the fallout from the recently held party congresses and generally repositioning the party ahead of the National Convention.”
