Three men arrested after shooting in Griffin Heights

Tallahassee police have arrested three men in connection with a double shooting that left a mother of eight dead in northwest Tallahassee.

TPD investigators said the trio arrived at the Griffin Heights Apartments on June 17 “armed with firearms” and fired into a crowd, accidentally killing two women.

“The arrestees targeted an individual with whom they had an argument over illegal drugs,” a TPD spokesperson wrote in a statement. “One woman died from her injuries, a second woman was also injured and is fortunately expected to survive.”

Investigators from TPD’s Violent Crimes Unit “collected evidence and witness statements, which allowed detectives to identify the shooters and driver.”

“After consulting with the public prosecutor’s office, investigators obtained arrest warrants for premeditated murder against all individuals,” wrote a TPD spokesman.

On Saturday morning, TPD announced the arrest of 23-year-old Reginald Mims III, 31-year-old Jimail Cooper and 33-year-old Antwan Muhammad. All three are charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

“These quick arrests are a testament to the agency’s commitment to working tirelessly to apprehend violent offenders and bring justice to victims and their families,” the TPD wrote.

The deceased was identified by family and friends as Ashley Emanuel.

“Her family came first,” Emanuel’s cousin Mary Lou Robins told the Democrat hours after the shooting. “She has a three-year-old son. Her oldest is 18. He lost his leg in a tragic accident about two years ago. He needs his mother.”
