2 charged with attempted extortion by threat of sexual abuse in case against JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna

Holenarasipura (Karnataka): A JD(S) worker and his relatives were arrested on Friday for allegedly trying to extort money from party member Suraj Revanna by threatening to file a false sexual assault complaint against him, police said.

The complaint was filed on Friday by Suraj Revanna’s close aide Shivakumar and based on it, an FIR was filed against Chethan KS and his brother-in-law.

Chethan also filed a police complaint on Friday, accusing Suraj Revanna of sexually harassing him.

Suraj Revanna is the son of Holenarasipura MP HD Revanna and the elder brother of former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who is in police custody on charges of sexually harassing several women.

In the police complaint, Shivakumar claimed that Chethan had become his friend and started working for the Suraj Revanna Brigade.

Recently, Chethan asked for money for the family, but when Shivakumar refused, the accused threatened to file a police complaint and accuse Suraj Revanna of sexual abuse, Shivakumar said in his complaint.

Shivakumar claimed that Chethan had demanded Rs 5 crore and later the demand was reduced to Rs 2 crore.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under sections 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (involvement of others in conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code against Chethan and his brother-in-law.
