Gold Cross releases statement following employee incident

AUGUSTA, Georgia (WJBF) – Two Gold Cross EMS employees have been fired following a recent incident, the organization said in a press release.

The press release states: “After a preliminary internal investigation and discussions with the two employees involved, we have concluded that immediate termination for policy violations is the best course of action.”

A message sent to employees and obtained by WJBF stated that on June 17, a “possibly intoxicated” off-duty employee was caught stealing items from an on-duty 911 ambulance for personal use. The message went on to say that the second employee assisted the first employee in transporting him to the station.

“(Gold Cross) can assure you that only the two staff members were affected,” the official press release said. “No patients or other staff members were injured or involved – there is currently no risk to the community related to any incident.”

“Gold Cross has been providing quality emergency services in the CSRA for nearly 20 years, but every now and then we encounter obstacles,” said Michael Meyers, PIO and Director of Business Development for Gold Cross EMS. “It is unfortunate that we have employees who sometimes make poor decisions. I pray they get the help they need and thank the community for their continued support.”

Gold Cross has referred the case to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
