Arrest after wild shooting on Lafayette highway

(Lafayette, Louisiana) – Lafayette Police Department officials announced the arrest of a man who allegedly fired shots at another vehicle as both cars were traveling on the Evangeline Thruway shortly after noon Thursday.

According to department spokeswoman Sergeant Robin Green, the victim said he and his friend had stopped their vehicle on the Thruway at the intersection with East Willow when another vehicle pulled up next to them.

The victim stated that the suspect told him he was following him and he pulled out a gun and pointed it at her, at which point the victim became frightened and fled the scene.

We don’t know anything about the motive or the cause of this situation. However, we do know that the people in the cars did not know each other.

The victim said as they drove off, the suspect began chasing them and shooting at their car. Two bullets struck the car.

Lafayette police later located the suspect’s vehicle in the 200 block of Brenda Street. The suspect was in the driver’s seat. They found two guns and meth.

Green says they arrested 40-year-old Vincent Jones on the following charges:

  • Two cases of attempted premeditated murder
  • Two cases of possession of weapons by a convicted felon
  • A case of firefighter’s possession with obscured serial number
  • One count of possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.
  • One count of possession of Schedule II narcotics
