Police release bodycam footage of police-involved shooting in northern Tulsa Park – 102.3 KRMG

TULSA, Oklahoma – Tulsa police have released bodycam footage of the shooting that left a suspect dead.

Tulsa police said the suspect killed in the police-involved shooting was 28-year-old Jesus Huerta-Sanchez, which occurred April 10 in Wheeling Park near Apache and Lewis.

“He ran through neighborhoods and businesses with a firearm,” said Tulsa Police Captain Richard Meulenberg.

Meulenberg said it started when they received a call around 3:30 p.m. from another neighborhood near Pine and Lewis, about a mile away.

The caller said that a man he knew but who was not welcome in his home did not want to leave and fired shots into the air during the argument.

“Officers began entering the area and searching for the suspect and he ran away,” Meulenberg said.

Meulenberg said they quickly realized the man they were looking for was a serious criminal.

We asked Meulenberg what was going through the officers’ minds as they searched for him.

“We respond to a 911 call and we never know what’s coming,” Meulenberg said. “And then we find out he’s shooting in the air, but we’re not sure if he’s shooting at anyone else. So he clearly has no regard for public safety.”

Police said they sent out a sniffer dog to follow the man’s trail, which eventually led officers to the park and the shooting.

After the shooting, police called in their forensics team to collect every remaining piece of evidence, including the gun the suspect allegedly used to point at them.

“They will take measurements here, take photos and videos and secure the firearm,” said Meulenberg.
