Forest fire rages near the Gallipoli peninsula and leads to traffic closures in the Dardanelles Strait

A fire broke out in agricultural land near the village of Kumkoy, specifically in the Akbas area of the Gallipoli Peninsula, in the Eceabat district of Canakkale. The exact cause of the fire is currently unknown, but it quickly spread to nearby forest areas.

In response to the escalating situation, the Canakkale Regional Forestry Directorate immediately dispatched teams to the site.

The fire was visible from several surrounding residential areas and required immediate containment measures. These measures include both air and ground operations, but are complicated by the strong winds prevailing in the region.

The effects of the fire were so serious that the Directorate General for Coastal Safety had to temporarily suspend north-south traffic in the Dardanelles Strait. This precautionary measure is intended to ensure the safety of maritime traffic and to prevent possible dangers caused by smoke or fire near the Strait.

Authorities continue to work hard to bring the fire under control and minimize its impact on the environment and local communities.
