Nearly record-breaking heat all weekend

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – It’s hot all over Alabama! Highs this weekend will remain above average, reaching values ​​between 35 and 38 degrees. When you factor in the humidity, the feel temperature will be just over 38 degrees. The chance of rain this weekend will remain low, with only a few isolated showers possible.

Saturday was hot! Highs today were above 35 degrees and the heat index was above 38 degrees. Due to the heat and humidity, a shower or two developed, but most of the area is dry. A southerly wind blew at about 8 km/h and skies remained clear.

It will be a mild night. The lowest temperatures will be between 21 and 25 degrees Celsius with partly cloudy skies. The wind will be light to calm.

More heat is expected on Sunday. Afternoon temperatures will rise again to above 35 degrees with a mix of sun and clouds. Heat index values ​​will be above 38 degrees due to humidity. Isolated showers or thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon, but it will remain dry for the most part. Winds will be from the southeast at around 5 to 10 mph, easing overnight. Lows will be above 24 degrees under partly cloudy skies.

A high pressure system will be located just northeast of us on Monday. It will bring southeast winds of 5 to 10 mph and bring moisture from the Gulf into the region. Highs will be a little lower at 90 degrees F with partly to mostly cloudy skies. Scattered to isolated rain and thunderstorms are possible on Monday. Clouds will persist overnight and lows will be in the 70s F.

The high pressure area will approach the region on Tuesday, so the probability of rain is very low until the middle of the week.

In fact, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be cloudy with some sunshine. The maximum temperature in the afternoon will be between 35 and 40 degrees. The wind will be around 8 km/h and will decrease at night. The minimum temperatures during this period will be 21 degrees, in some places even 18 degrees.

The ridge of high pressure is beginning to dissipate somewhat, and moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will move into the region on Friday. This means that the chance of rain will increase again from Friday through next weekend.

Currently, the chance of rain is isolated and scattered in nature. Highs for the end of the week and the first weekend of summer are around 35 degrees, with lows around 21 degrees.

Quick note: The first day of summer is Thursday! The summer solstice occurs at 3:50 p.m. Central Time. That means June 20th will have the most daylight hours of the year… about 14 hours long. Starting Thursday, daylight hours will start to get shorter as we move into winter and the second half of the year.
