Bartender allegedly mixed drinks with drugs and sexually harassed guest

A Waterloo man is facing sexual assault charges after police say his victim consumed a drug-laced drink at a Toronto hotel last year.

According to Toronto Police, the victim was staying at a downtown hotel on October 14, 2023.

At around 6 p.m. of the same day, the victim entered the hotel bar and had drinks served to him by the defendant, who was working as a bartender.

It is alleged that the defendant served the victim a mixed drink. “This is my special drink,” the defendant told the victim, according to police.

According to police, the victim suffered a blackout after consuming the drink and was sexually abused by the defendant.

On Wednesday, 35-year-old Manish Patil was arrested and charged with sexual assault.

Police believe there may be more victims and that the suspect may have worked at other hotels in the city center.

Investigators also released a photo of the suspect.
