Father charged with child abuse in connection with death of his toddler, police said

A 32-year-old man has been charged with child abuse in connection with the death of his 2-year-old son, Prince George’s County police said.

Lance Harrison of Oxon Hill is charged with first-degree child abuse resulting in death and related offenses. He was taken to the county jail, police said.

According to a press release, officers responded to a residence in the 5400 block of Livingston Terrace at around 3:40 a.m. Sunday, where officers found Kayceson Barkley, also from Oxon Hill, injured and unconscious.

Shortly afterwards, he was pronounced dead in a hospital. According to an autopsy on Sunday, he had suffered “multiple broken bones, extensive bruising and bleeding,” police said.

The exact cause of death is being determined by the coroner, who reported that some of the injuries were not consistent with an accident. police said. According to an initial investigation, Kayceson was in Harrison’s sole care at the time of his fatal injury, police said.

It was not immediately clear whether Harrison has a lawyer.
