Colorado Springs police shoot man after disturbing peace at store, officials say

According to Colorado Springs police, a man was shot and killed while they were chasing him on foot after allegedly noticing a disturbance at a nearby business.

At around 12:48 a.m. Sunday, Colorado Springs police officers and the Downtown Area Response Team were patrolling on foot along East Colorado and South Nevada avenues, according to a Sunday morning post from the police department on X.

Officers noticed a suspected disturbance at a business on South Nevada Avenue, just north of East Colorado Avenue, the post said. Police approached the business and saw an adult male with a gun running north on South Nevada Avenue toward East Pikes Peak Avenue, police said.

According to the post, Colorado Springs police officers chased the man, identified themselves as police officers and ordered him to drop his weapon. The man did not stop running and police fired at him, the post said. The man continued running after being shot and was arrested in the 100 block of East Pikes Peak Avenue, according to police.

Police rendered medical aid and the man was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. According to the post, officers then found the man’s gun at the scene. The man has not yet been publicly identified.
