Fond du Lac Police Department helps suicide suspect

On Saturday, June 8, 2024, at approximately 3:07 p.m., Fond du Lac Police responded to the 100 block of Southlake Lane on a report of a man attempting to commit suicide while armed with a shotgun.

Fond du Lac Police officers responded to the area in the Bearcat armored rescue vehicle after learning the man was armed with a firearm and began setting up a perimeter in the immediate area. The 911 call was made by a family member who was eventually able to safely exit the home through the garage and met with Fond du Lac Police officers.

An officer with the Fond du Lac Police Department was able to make a connection that resulted in the man, who was previously armed with a shotgun, leaving the home unarmed. The man was taken into protective custody without incident.

The 72-year-old Fond du Lac man was evaluated at the scene by the City of Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue and transported to the hospital. He was taken into emergency custody. No criminal charges have been filed against him and he is now receiving the help he needs.
