Investigations begin after reports of rape of a girl in the town square

Staffordshire Police have launched an investigation into the incident on Wednesday evening. Reports say the girl was approached and raped by a man between 5.45pm and 6.15pm in Essington Park, near Brownshore Lane in Essington.

Police said that following the report, officers searched the area and spoke to anyone who may have information that could assist in the investigation.

It also included a description of the suspect, which said he was white, approximately 6 feet tall and wearing a black Trapstar tracksuit.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “We have launched an investigation following reports that a young man was raped by a girl in Essington.”

“On Wednesday evening (June 5) we received a call telling us what had happened.

“Between 5.45pm and 6.15pm, the teenager was approached and raped by a man in Essington Park, near Brownshore Lane.

“She is currently being supported by specially trained officers.

“A number of officers have been searching the area since the initial report and have spoken to people who may have information that can assist our investigation.

“A large police presence is expected to remain in the area as we continue our investigations and reassure the local community.

“We would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened or anyone who has information that can assist us with our investigation.”

“We believe the suspect was in the area with three other males at the time. He is described as white, approximately 6′ tall and wearing a black Trapstar tracksuit.
