Police officer shot suspect, investigation ongoing

BELOIT, Wis. (WIFR) – Beloit police said they are currently investigating a shooting involving one of their officers.

On May 29 at around 1:30 p.m., police were called to the 800 block of Oak Street for a report of a man running through backyards in the area. Officers say when they caught up to the suspect, Thomas Sykes, he ran toward the officer in an “aggressive” manner. According to Beloit police, the officer ordered Sykes to stop, but Sykes continued his allegedly aggressive behavior.

The officer then fired at Sykes, but missed. No one was injured in the incident and Sykes was taken into custody and given a medical evaluation.

According to Beloit police, the officers involved were wearing body cameras during the incident.
