ATV accident costs Magnolia man his life | Local news

A Magnolia man died in an SUV crash on Columbia County Road 216 at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

According to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police, 42-year-old Joey L. Ellis was driving a 2024 Can Am ATV north on the roadway near County Road 15, about 6 miles southwest of Magnolia, south of U.S. 371.

Ellis lost control of the ATV, which went off the road and overturned. He died at the scene.

The weather was clear and the road was dry.

Ellis’ body was delivered to Lewis Funeral Home.

Trooper Justin Cherry of the Arkansas State Police investigated the accident.

According to his Facebook page, Ellis ran a trucking business and a home renovation and repair service.

Ellis’ death was the fourth fatal traffic crash in Columbia County in 2024. There were two deaths in 2023, 10 deaths in 2022 and seven deaths in 2021.

Editor’s note: Arkansas State Police preliminary fatality reports sometimes contain information that turns out to be inaccurate. Typical errors include misspellings of names or incorrect ages, outdated information about residence, direction of travel of the vehicle and time of incident. The ASP sometimes corrects these errors in updated reports. ASP reports are missing the names of passengers or drivers who are not injured, even in cases where uninjured drivers appear to be at fault. The reports also do not include names of juveniles who were injured or killed, although we do include those names when we receive them from other sources.
