First Alert Weather: Sunny start to the weekend

Friday’s sunshine will continue into the start of the weekend, with a high pressure system moving overhead. This also means we will have clear skies on Friday night. This is good because then we will have a chance of seeing the Northern Lights. Of course, that is if the Northern Lights are actually visible. If they are, the skies will be clear enough to see them. We will post updates on social media and the radio on Friday night.

There will be plenty of sunshine on Saturday, with high clouds moving in later in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will rise to 25 to 27 degrees Celsius away from Lake Ontario, but communities near the immediate lakeshore will be about 10 degrees cooler on Saturday. Clouds will move in ahead of our next system on Saturday night, but it will remain dry. That will change on Sunday, then some showers will return, but the weather on Sunday will trend a little drier. That’s great news for outdoor activities, including Fairport Canal Days! Still, prepare for at least a few showers on Sunday.

Monday will be warmer, with highs around 27 degrees, then around 27 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday. Aside from a few afternoon thunderstorms, Tuesday should remain dry. Wednesday afternoon and evening will have a greater chance of a few showers or thunderstorms, with the greatest chance of a few thunderstorms on Thursday. Then the weather pattern will change, bringing cooler air back to the Great Lakes and Northeast toward next weekend, making us a little uneasy.
