Michigan man with suspended license drives during virtual court hearing, stuns judge | News

A man in Ann Arbor, Michigan, has become known for driving his vehicle via Zoom during a virtual court hearing for a driver’s license suspension. PEOPLE reports.

Judge Cedric Simpson, who chaired the hearing on 15 May, was stunned when Corey Harristhe defendant, came to the virtual court hearing in his car.

“Mr. Harris, are you driving?” asked Judge Simpson.

“Actually, I’m driving to my doctor’s office,” Harris replied. “So just give me a second. I’m parking.”

Harris doesn’t notice that Judge Simpson is confused by his behavior and drives into the parking lot as if nothing had happened. The court is shocked by his behavior.

Finally, Judge Simpson asked if Harris had parked.

“I’m pulling in right now,” Harris replied. “Yes, I am.”

When the public defender asked why Harris was in court, his lawyer requested a postponement of the proceedings.

“Okay, maybe I’m not understanding something. This is ‘driving while suspended’?” asked Judge Simpson.

“That is correct, Your Honor,” the public defender explained.

“And he just drove and didn’t have a license?”

“Those are the charges, Your Honor, yes,” said the public defender.

“No, I look at his record. He doesn’t have a driver’s license. His license is suspended and he’s just driving,” the judge said.

“That is correct, Your Honor.”

“I don’t even know why he would do that,” Judge Simpson said before revoking Harris’ bail.

“The defendant is required to report to the Washtenaw County Jail by 6 p.m. today. If he fails to report, a no-bail warrant will be issued,” Judge Simpson said.

“Oh my God,” Harris said after Simpson’s decision.

Accordingly Detroit’s WXYZHarris was charged with driving without a license in October 2023.

It is not known whether Harris turned himself in.
