Man arrested at White River Junction after alleged assault and standoff with police

A White River Junction man is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday afternoon following two alleged assaults and a standoff with police.

Hartford police accuse John Beane of attacking and injuring two women at the Stony Creek Condominiums on Friday; they did not disclose what time on Friday it happened. The alleged victims are reportedly 72 and 91 years old. When officers went to Beane’s condo to speak with him, Beane told them from a window that he had a gun and wanted to shoot them.

Police told everyone in the building to evacuate. They also said they tried to negotiate with Beane, but failed, so they left the building after several hours. Officers returned Saturday afternoon when a relative of Beane called 911 to report that Beane was having a medical emergency.

Officers said they broke into the apartment complex through several barricades. After paramedics administered emergency medical care, Beane refused further medical attention, according to police. Officers arrested him for domestic violence. He is being held without bail at the Southern State Correctional in Springfield.
