Russian tourist arrested for alleged rape in Bali

Police on the Indonesian resort island of Bali have arrested a Russian man on allegations of raping a Belarusian woman and destroying property at a villa in Badung Regency.

The arrest on April 26 came a week after the tourist complained to police that she had been raped in a living room of the villa, police told the press on May 1, quoted by The Bali Times.

After his arrest, police took the man to a local hospital for a medical examination. However, he managed to escape the hospital before being arrested a second time on April 28.

Police also said that when he was asked to pay the rent for the villa, he refused and damaged the interior of the villa, causing 91 million rupees ($5,700) worth of damage Nusa Bali News site.

He entered Bali on a tourist visa and rented a villa between April 18 and 22.
