Arrest in deadly DC shooting

WASHINGTON, D.C — A suspect has been taken into custody in connection with a March shooting that left a man dead in Southeast Washington. The DC Metro Police Department confirmed the arrest of 21-year-old Monteze Morton for the crime. Morton was arrested Thursday by the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force following a D.C. Superior Court warrant.

On March 22 at approximately 3:08 p.m., police were called to the 2900 block of Gainesville Street after reports of shots fired. They discovered Dimitrious Tre’von Brown, 29, unresponsive and without signs of life on nearby Hartford Street. Brown was later pronounced dead by emergency medical services.

Morton is now charged with first-degree murder while armed and is currently in the homicide unit.
