Rite Aid Closures Create Opportunities for Other Buffalo-Area Retailers

BUFFALO, N.Y. — On the side of the road in front of Brighton Eggert Pharmacy Inc. in Tonawanda is a large sign that reads: “Rite Aid Patients Welcome.” Try our family pharmacy.

Nearby in Tonawanda, a sign at the Walgreens, at the corner of Sheridan Drive and Parker Boulevard, greets customers with: “Welcome Customers to Rite Aid Pharmacy #1910.”

The signs mark the hole left by Rite Aid, which closed some local stores as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. At least eight Buffalo-area locations will close, although the company has not released a full list of locations permanently ending operations.
