2 people arrested in chase and attempted robbery in Pembroke Pines – NBC 6 South Florida

Two men were arrested after allegedly attempting to rob an acquaintance in Pembroke Pines by threatening him with a knife on Monday and then starting a chase with police.

Officers initially responded to reports that a man had broken into a home shortly after 6 a.m. on Monday.

A man and a woman were in the building at the time of the attack, police said.

The man told authorities that one of the burglars, 20-year-old Carlos Santiago Duran, was armed with a knife and tried to kill him. Duran is an acquaintance of the victims, who got into the home by climbing over an outside balcony and opening a sliding glass door, police said.

When the victims called police, the suspect ran out and got into a Honda Civic waiting outside, authorities said.

The suspected driver, 22-year-old Jorge Nicolas Uribe Jacome, fled and led police on a chase that ended in front of a gas station near North University Drive.

An initial investigation revealed that one of the victims and Duran had been involved in a verbal argument at a social event earlier that evening, police said. It was not clear what the argument was about or whether it sparked the break-in.

Duran is charged with attempted murder, armed burglary, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment. Uribe Jacome is charged with attempted murder, armed burglary, fleeing and eluding and other traffic offenses.
