Culver City police investigate broad daylight robbery after ATM visit; suspect still at large

Victim was followed on Culver Park Drive and Slauson Avenue and robbed at gunpoint

Culver City Police are investigating a robbery that occurred Saturday afternoon after a victim was targeted after visiting an ATM.

The incident occurred on July 27, 2024 at approximately 1:00 p.m. The victim had used an ATM on Sepulveda Boulevard and was followed by two suspects to the intersection of Culver Park Drive and Slauson Avenue. Officers immediately responded and made contact with the victim after calling police.

According to the CCPD press release, the victim exited his vehicle to retrieve an item from the trunk and the suspects blocked the victim’s car with their own vehicles. Suspect 1 then exited the passenger side of one of the vehicles, brandished a black semi-automatic pistol and demanded that the victim “search his pockets.” Meanwhile, Suspect 2 approached from behind, reached into the victim’s pockets and stole an envelope containing $4,360 in cash.

The suspects then fled the scene in their vehicles, heading north on Slauson Avenue. Both suspects were described as men wearing black clothing.

To prevent similar incidents, the CCPD recommends the following security measures:

  • Be aware of your surroundings, especially near banks and ATMs.
  • Visit bank branches during the day and, if possible, accompanied.
  • Keep cash and bank items hidden and avoid counting cash in public.
  • Change your routine regularly to avoid predictable patterns.
  • Make sure your vehicle is locked, windows are closed, and valuables are not visible.
  • Report suspicious behavior to the authorities and go to the nearest police station if you suspect you are being followed.
  • Keep your financial transactions confidential and do not disclose your banking plans.
