Woman sexually assaulted during break-ins in Silver Lake, police say

A woman was attacked and sexually assaulted in her bedroom early Saturday in a series of home invasions, prompting police to urge residents of Silver Lake and East Hollywood to keep their lights on.

“Residents are urged to turn on all outdoor lights, lock all windows and doors, and be alert for any suspicious persons or vehicles,” the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement to the public.

The burglaries, which police refer to as “hot prowl” burglaries, are break-ins that occur while residents are inside the home. The burglaries occurred Saturday morning. A woman was attacked in the bedroom where she was sleeping, said Lillian Carranza, deputy chief of operations for the LAPD Central Bureau.

The police department did not disclose the locations, but police dispatch and Citizen App records included three burglary reports between 3 a.m. and 10 a.m. in a two-block area between Manzanita Street and Sanborn Avenue.
