The epilogue of The Walking Dead explains whether we will be able to defeat the zombies once and for all

The war between humans and zombies finally ends

Spoilers ahead for The Walking Dead TV show and comics

The Walking Dead Fans wonder what happened to all the zombies at the end of the series, and an epilogue provides the answer.

At the beginning of The Walking Dead The walkers were the biggest threat to the remaining humans, but as the series progresses they become more of a nuisance than something to be feared.

Fans who haven’t made it to the end of the television series or the comic books it is based on are wondering what happened to the majority of zombies and how it is possible that they are not extinct after so many years.

A fan on Reddit had the answer: Towards the end of the comics there comes a point when the zombie supply “runs low.”

Apparently, the survivors manage to drive away several herds of undead by either killing them in the old-fashioned way or luring them to their deaths, for example by taking them to the sea.

The fan continued, “By the epilogue, they’ve reclaimed a large portion of the East Coast, and unless you go out to the ‘border,’ it’s incredibly rare to see a zombie. Rare enough that… some people worry their children won’t understand how dangerous a zombie is because they’ve never seen one.”

There is probably still the small problem that anyone who dies is at risk of turning into a zombie, whether they were bitten or not, but it is believed that the majority of survivors have now understood the importance of destroying the brain when someone dies.

It will be interesting to see if the spin-off shows of The Walking Dead eventually leads to a kind of epilogue special in which everyone finally gets their happy ending and is safe from the infection.
