Bodycam video shows Texas police officers rescuing man from burning car – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Thanks to the quick response of police in The Colony, a North Texas man was rescued last Friday after a car crashed and became trapped between two guardrails on an overpass.

The Colony Police Department posted dramatic officer body camera video on social media showing the intense moments when officers arrived on the scene.

Authorities said they were called to a serious accident in the 5700 block of South Colony Boulevard at approximately 1:23 a.m. on July 19.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a car wedged between two divider barriers along the south and north lanes of the overpass.

The colony’s police said that officers initially tried unsuccessfully to extinguish the fire as it kept flaring up again.

In the video, police can be seen rushing to the vehicle and using a metal tool to break the driver’s side window. Officers then pulled the driver out and helped him get to a safe distance while the car was still burning.

The driver was taken to a local hospital with accident-related injuries. An officer was taken to the hospital for further evaluation for smoke inhalation and is expected to recover.

According to police, all other officers on site were examined by paramedics and released back to duty.
