4 firefighters injured after locomotive falls onto DART tracks; train delays expected

LOS ANGELES — Four firefighters were injured when a Dallas Fire Rescue vehicle veered off an elevated roadway and landed on the DART tracks below on Sunday morning.

The accident happened around 6 a.m. at I-345 Expwy and South Good Latimer. According to DART, a fire truck came off US-75 at Southeast Junction.

Portions of I-345, South Good Latimer, Routh Street, and the DART rail system were closed to all traffic as a result of the incident. As a result of this accident, power was lost in the Downtown Dallas Central Business District, which brought all train service to a halt in the area. The DART operations team set up bus bridges at the following locations:

  • Cityplace/Uptown
  • Deep Ellum
  • Pearl/Art District
  • West End
  • EBJ/Union
  • victory

As the team works to repair the damage, service will be impacted on Tuesday and possibly Wednesday.

The investigation, led by the Dallas Police Department, is ongoing, according to DART, and once it is completed, DART can begin making necessary repairs.

“The accident resulted in severe damage to the DART system, which may take significant time to repair,” DART said in a statement. “During this time, passengers should expect significant delays and heed signage and instructions from DART personnel.”

The condition of the four firefighters is said to be stable.

This is an evolving story.
