Charges dropped against former Youngsville police chief Rickey Boudreaux

YOUNGSVILLE, Louisiana (KLFY)– Former Youngsville Police Chief Rickey Boudreaux is eligible to run for office despite a new law barring him from running. The same day Boudreaux was granted the nod, a denial notice was released dismissing a drug charge against him.

News 10 spoke exclusively with the former boss in this current story.

Boudreaux said that despite all the difficulties he has been through – starting with doubts about his candidacy and the dismissal of a drug charge – it feels good to be able to qualify.

Youngsville will hold a special election on Nov. 5 to elect a new police chief. Boudreaux’s eligibility has raised questions since a new law went into effect making him ineligible. But in order for the law to be enforced, his candidacy must be challenged, and Boudreaux said his candidacy should be decided by the citizens.

“I mean, there’s no reason, in my view, to enforce a law that really goes against the will of the people,” Boudreaux said.

News 10 has reached out to other candidates running against him, who have told us they have no intention of challenging his candidacy. In addition to his qualifications, Boudreaux also had a charge of methamphetamine possession dropped. He said he feels vindicated by the dropping of the charges against him.

“I did nothing wrong criminally or intentionally, because I may have made mistakes,” Boudreaux said. “I’m not perfect. I’m like any other human being, I’m just very happy to have been vindicated on this matter.”
