2 dead after house fire in Pleasant Grove

PLEASANT GROVE — Two people were killed in a house fire in Utah County early Wednesday morning.

Chief Andrew Engemann of the Pleasant Grove Fire Department said emergency crews arrived at the home near 600 E. 100 North before 2 a.m. and found the back porch and an adjacent room engulfed in flames.

A woman in her 80s was found by firefighters and taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition, where she later died. Engemann said they found a second victim, a man in his 50s with physical disabilities. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A dog and a cat also died in the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Engemann said state fire investigators believe the blaze was sparked by an electrical problem. Crews from the Lone Peak, Orem and American Fork fire departments assisted in the firefighting effort.
