England cricketer and Hampshire captain James Vince has launched a public appeal regarding the ongoing attacks on his property which have resulted in his family being forced to leave his home town of Southampton. For almost eight years, Vince and his family enjoyed the peace and quiet of their home in a village east of Southampton. That peace was shattered earlier this year when Vince’s home and vehicles were the target of two shocking attacks which forced the family to flee and left them living in fear. The first attack occurred in the early hours of April 15. Vince, 33, described the harrowing experience: “My wife and I were suddenly woken up by a lot of banging and alarms. We had no idea what was going on and it was obviously very disturbing so we immediately rushed to the children to make sure they were safe. They were very shaken,” Vince told The Telegraph.

When police arrived, the attackers had disappeared, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. A neighbor reported seeing a car speeding away from the scene.

The damage to the cars and the house was so great that the family had to move out temporarily while repairs were being carried out. Although surveillance cameras and alarm systems were installed, the feeling of security was irreparably destroyed.

Less than a week after returning home, Vince’s worst fears were realized when a second attack occurred on May 1. This time, he was still awake upstairs. “That meant I was able to go downstairs pretty quickly and had a better idea of what was going on. It wasn’t a big surprise either because it had happened before. I think they noticed the activity in the house and left quickly,” he explained.

The attackers used bricks and again smashed the windows of the cars and the house. Vince described that the family had just returned from a charity dinner for his teammate Chris Wood when the attack took place around midnight.

The incidents have baffled Vince and authorities alike. Despite extensive investigations by police, private security and intelligence agencies, no clear motive has emerged. Vince remains convinced the attacks were a case of mistaken identity. “All the experts we’ve spoken to say it looks like a money problem, unpaid debts or something like that,” Vince said. “We have nothing to hide and we know we’ve never been involved in anything like this. We just desperately want this to stop.”

Footage from the new security cameras has provided some clues. It shows a man with a flashlight passing bricks over a wall to another man, who then throws them at the house and cars. The second man was wearing a hoodie with a Gym King logo and had his face covered. Vince hopes this could be important information in identifying the perpetrators.

The attacks happened to occur on days when Hampshire had home games, adding to the mystery. Despite increased security, the family remains on edge and fears a third attack. “We don’t want to risk the same thing happening again,” Vince said. “It’s not fair that my wife and children have to go through this again.”

The emotional toll on the family was enormous, especially on Vince’s young children. “Something like this is a huge strain on our lives, especially on our children, who are understandably affected and unsettled by the situation. However, I am amazed and very proud of how they have dealt with it. We have received a lot of support locally and from the cricket community,” said Vince.

The family have now appealed to the public, hoping someone recognises the attackers or has information that could solve the mystery. “If anyone knows anything or sees anything in the footage of the attack that could lead to anything, please contact us or Hampshire Police. It could be the last piece of information we need to find out what is going on and get our lives back to normal,” Vince urged.

Hampshire Police confirmed the incidents, saying: “Two incidents of criminal damage at an address in the early hours of 15 April and 11 May. On both occasions two cars were damaged and the living room windows were smashed.”
