Investigations are underway after F-22 Raptor crashed during a training exercise

An F-22 Raptor fighter jet was involved in an incident where the aircraft collapsed on the ground during an Air National Guard exercise in the United States.

A pilot was involved in the “accident” but suffered no injuries, the Georgia Air National Guard’s 165th Airlift Wing said.

The Georgia Air National Guard hosts Sentry Savannah, an annual air combat exercise to demonstrate the aircraft readiness of multiple ANG units

Air Dominance Center commander Colonel Stephen Thomas said, “Thank you to all first responders who arrived on scene.”

“Sentry Savannah is about demonstrating readiness, and today’s mishap validated our Airmen’s ability to respond at a moment’s notice.”

The 165th Airlift Wing added that the incident was under investigation.

“Misadventures” with an F-22 were not uncommon.

In March 2022, a Raptor’s landing gear collapsed while landing at Eglin Air Force Base – and this came after a similar accident a year earlier at the same base.

The F-22 Raptors returned to Sentry Savannah just last year after a five-year hiatus.

That followed a failed takeoff in 2018 in which a plane skidded about 6,500 feet down a runway before stopping, which an investigation said was attributed to pilot error.
