El Paso County authorities investigate fatal shooting incident | State

EL PASO, Texas — According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, a 39-year-old man died from a gunshot wound to the head during an altercation on July 4.

On July 4, 2024, at approximately 11:49 p.m., officers with the Texas Rescue Patrol and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a fight in progress with gunfire at Red Sands, 15600 Montana Ave. It was found that 39-year-old Arturo Navarro had sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and determined that 21-year-old Jair Navarro was responsible for shooting his father. On July 7, 2024, Arturo Navarro was pronounced dead. Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for murder.

On July 12, 2024, the U.S. Marshals’ Lone Star Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Jair Navarro in the 11600 block of Datsun Dr, El Paso County, Texas. Navarro was subsequently booked into the El Paso County Detention Center on a charge of murder, with bail set at $750,000.
