Wind-driven Maui wildfires spread to Haleakala; First Alert Weather team monitors conditions

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Maui County Fire Department officials were alerted to a brush fire on Haleakala Wednesday evening.

According to officials, the flames broke out around 6:45 p.m. near Mile 8 off Crater Road.

According to MFD, about one hectare has burned so far.

Maui Police have closed Crater Road from mile 8 to mile 10.

No evacuations have been carried out yet, but residents are asked to avoid the area.

The investigation is ongoing.
